Un/Becoming Human - Introduction

This exhibition engages with three recent texts, Kim Bo-young’s “Last of the Wolves” (2021), Murakami Haruki’s “Confessions of a Shinagawa Monkey” (2020), and Ken Liu’s “Good Hunting” and its adaptation (2012/2019) in order to discuss sentiments surrounding the category of the ‘human’ the construction and subversion of the animal Other.  Three key questions are posed—'What Opposes the Human?’, ‘How Does One Become Human?’, and ‘Is Being Human a Good Thing?’ which interrogate each work’s depiction of the human and its boundaries.
